Beauty for Ashes

You say that you had a fire

and precious things were lost;

your marriage, your peace or maybe your child;

possessions of great value and cost.

Snapshots of your future

were destroyed with all its dreams.

Your heart is now so broken

that life’s not as it seemed.

You play back all the memories

wishing you could just go back;

for you would do so much better next time;

you would not be so slack.

You think that it is just too late;

image of failure continuously flashes.

You feel you can’t recover and say

“there’s no hope here in my ashes”.

Take heart dear one!

As with any fire, you can always rebuild.

You get to choose the material and style.

So build and our heart will heal!

The supplies you need come from the Christ

who so lovingly gives them to you;

your marriage, your job; whatever the loss,

but here’s what you have to do.

Give Him your sorrow; disappointments and pain

and all of our life and its crashes.

And because He cares affectionately to you,

He will give you Beauty for Ashes.
