NOBODY TOLD ME

I heard, “you’re not pretty”.

I heard, “you’re not enough”.

I heard, “you’re not special”;

That my presence cause disgust”.

They said it without speaking

Though their actions were loud and clear.

They said it in dark silence

But, were transmitted into my ear.

I valued their perception.

What they said, I did believe,

Though each word cut deep into my heart,

Each word, I still received.

FINALLY, I saw their view didn’t change;

That they may never stamp me “approved”

I then decided to search my “my own” reflection

Looking for value and their words disprove.

What I saw was quite delightful!;

MY WORDS of beauty hidden on a shelf.

Although I listened to everybody else,

I NEVER LISTENED TO MYSELF!
