I Had to Know

My mother taught me what she knew.

My father did the same thing too.

From baby steps I was taught of God

sometimes with words, sometimes with the rod.

I never question what I heard.

I took at face value every word.

They taught me to recite things I didn’t understand.

but still I gloried in the applauds of hands.

To me, God was like parents who didn’t understand.

If you were not good enough, to you He’d raise His hand.

As a young girl, there were times I called and He did come.

There was no doubt in my mind where those blessings had come from.

But I grew tired of trusting only what I heard

and decided to test the truth of God and His word.

He began showing himself strong in my life;

gently revealing His love for me to heal scars of life’s sharp knife.

I must say, I was not used to being loved in that way,

but I started to believe it a little more each day.

Finally, I decided to trust Him and allow Him into my heart.

From that day to this day, my life’s had a brand new start.

I’ve never felt this way before, I’m ALIVE for the very first time!

I’m born again! This thing’s for real! This truth I’d hope I’d find.

Joy in sorrow, happiness in trouble. I’d heard that quite a bit.

But now I say and tell no lie that I’m experiencing it!

I no longer need to question what I heard about God to and fro.

I searched till I found that God is really real.!

For myself I had to know!
